Calling the UK from Pakistan with a UK caller ID: a practical guide
Pakistan-based teams calling British customers lose much of their answer rate to the number on the screen. How to call with a local +44 caller ID, which UK rules apply, and how to set a team up.
Pakistan has a large outsourcing industry serving British clients: English-speaking agents in Lahore, Karachi and Islamabad who work UK hours. The hard part of a UK campaign is rarely the agents. It is everything between them and the person they are calling, starting with the number that appears on that person's screen.
Why the caller ID decides the call
A call showing a +92 number, or an unfamiliar international one, looks exactly like what British people have been told for years to ignore. A UK number starting +44 looks like a business they might deal with. Answer rates move more on this than on anything you can change in the script; we explain why in why a local number gets answered.
Ofcom, the UK communications regulator, also expects the number you display to be a real, working number that people can call back, and UK networks block calls that show invalid numbers. Use a genuine UK number that belongs to you, and make sure a callback reaches someone.
What you need
A UK +44 number to show as the caller ID.
A way to place calls over the internet from Pakistan, ideally from a browser so there is nothing to install on each machine.
Decent wired headsets and a stable connection. A voice call needs far less bandwidth than video, but it is sensitive to jitter, so a cable beats shared wifi.
A leads list your agents work from, rather than numbers pasted into a phone.
Backup power. Load-shedding that drops the router mid-call costs you a conversation; a small UPS on the router pays for itself.
UK rules you cannot skip
Calling from outside the UK does not take you outside UK rules. Regulators look at who the calls are made to and on whose behalf, so neither you nor a UK client can sidestep the rules by dialling from abroad. This is not legal advice, but every UK campaign should start from these points.
The Telephone Preference Service (TPS) and Corporate TPS: do not make unsolicited marketing calls to registered numbers unless that person has specifically agreed to calls from you. Screen your list before every campaign.
Some sectors cannot cold call at all. Unsolicited calls about pensions or claims management need the person's prior consent.
Say who you are and who you are calling for, give people a way to opt out, and honour opt-outs immediately.
Avoid abandoned and silent calls. A click-to-call dialer, where the agent starts each call, avoids them by design.
If you work for a UK client, ask for their TPS screening and consent records before the first call. Our call recording basics cover the other compliance question teams ask most.
When to call
UK working hours fall in the Pakistani afternoon and evening. Pakistan does not change its clocks and the UK does, so the gap is four hours during British Summer Time and five hours in winter. 9am to 8pm in the UK is 1pm to midnight in Pakistan in summer, and 2pm to 1am in winter. The full table for every country is in the best times to call from Pakistan.
Setting it up on ReachCalls
ReachCalls was built with this setup in mind. Choose a UK plan (or UK + Ireland if you call both), pay by local bank transfer in rupees with no processing fee, and once the payment is approved, add your agents. They sign in from any laptop browser and call with a UK caller ID, while the admin panel holds your agents, numbers and leads. Calls come out of a monthly call credit, charged by the second. The pricing page has the current plans.
